One month before he transferred to our department , the 92 years
old patient experienced a severe sudden dyspnea with chest pain and
was admitted to the emergency department of localhospital.
He underwent chest tube thoractomy immediately there. The symptom
was relieved, but continual air leakage still made him go to our
hospital for help 20 days later. Then we made a treatment plan
for him about VATS after systemic evaluation. This oldest VATS
patient in our department underwent the operation on 17th march
2005. In lateral decubitus, a video-assisted surgery was performed.
We found the bleb and ligated it with suture, as well as talc
pleurodesis done. The postoperative period was smooth. The chest
tube was removed onthe sixth post-operative day and the
patient was dischargedon the 13th day. And X-ray showed
the lung re-expanded completely.
